Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Are Getting Married at MSG Today — Here’s Everything That’s Happened

Taylor Swift Travis Kelce wedding Madison Square Garden

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding day is here. Months of speculation, Easter egg hunts, and permit filings have led to this — Friday July 4th at Madison Square Garden, where approximately 1,000 guests are expected to gather for what has been described as nothing less than a spectacular transformation of one of the world’s most famous arenas.

The day follows the structure of a traditional wedding — cocktail hour, ceremony, and reception — with the ceremony set for 5:30pm and the party expected to run until 2am. What is not traditional is the scale, the security, or the degree of secrecy that has surrounded every detail. Streets directly around MSG have been closed. The NYPD is managing fan and paparazzi activity around the venue. Private security is inside. Guests are expected to arrive from 3:30pm via a tented VIP entrance.

The venue itself has been completely transformed. Event crews have been working for days, with 18-wheelers delivering supplies — mostly under wraps — around the clock. People magazine editor-in-chief Charlotte Triggs told that “it doesn’t look at all the same inside.” One event professional watching the delivery process said he saw a bar stretcher labelled “trees” and predicted a forest or garden theme for the interior.

“This is going to be an absolute, spectacular blowout,” Triggs said. “They’ve completely transformed it.” Celebrity event planners compared the production scale to a “blockbuster movie.”

The Rehearsal Dinner — Who Came and Who Did Not

Thursday night’s rehearsal dinner, also held at MSG with approximately 100 guests, revealed which members of Swift’s famously curated inner circle remain in her good standing.

Selena Gomez posted an Instagram Story of herself in a strapless black gown in a limo, applying makeup to Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings.” Swift’s childhood best friend Abigail Anderson Berard — who has a notable shoutout in the song “Fifteen” — was photographed leaving the Ritz-Carlton in a gold gown and shawl evoking Swift’s 2008 Fearless era. Lena Dunham, whose split from Jack Antonoff was documented in her memoir Famesick, attended despite months of fan speculation that one or both might not be invited — both Dunham and Antonoff were spotted heading to the venue Thursday evening. Swift was a bridesmaid at Dunham’s 2021 wedding and a guest at Antonoff’s 2023 wedding to Margaret Qualley.

Also seen heading to the rehearsal dinner: Adam Sandler, arriving via MSG’s underground unloading zone; Bradley Cooper, reportedly attending as the partner of Swift’s close friend Gigi Hadid; sportscasters Charissa Thompson and Erin Andrews in sparkly silver; Kelce’s aunt Joan and uncle Don; Swift’s publicist Tree Paine; stylist Ashley Avignone; NFL commentator Greg Olsen; and the San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle and his wife Claire.

The notable absence was Blake Lively, once among Swift’s closest friends. Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds were photographed upstate at a horse show where their daughter was competing. The two women’s falling-out reportedly dates to early 2025, connected to Lively’s legal battle with director Justin Baldoni. The couple’s three daughters — James, Inez, and Betty — are named in Swift’s 2020 song “betty,” giving the absence a particular poignancy.

Sabrina Carpenter and Graham Norton have both been spotted in New York this week and are expected to be among Friday’s larger guest list, which also includes Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Jack Antonoff, Margaret Qualley, Mariska Hargitay, Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Zoë Kravitz, Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Emma Stone, and Saturday Night Live cast members.

The story that ends in a wedding at Madison Square Garden started with a friendship bracelet and a podcast. Kelce attended one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Kansas City in 2023 and tried to give her a bracelet with his phone number. He didn’t get to meet her. He talked about being “a little butthurt” on his podcast New Heights with brother Jason. That clip reached Swift’s mother, who encouraged her daughter to give him a chance.

Swift, who had been hesitant about dating an athlete, said in her Disney docuseries The End of an Era that she was surprised by how much she and Kelce had in common. “It’s shocking how many similarities we have towards our jobs and how we view them,” she said. “We both have jobs where we go out in NFL stadiums and we entertain people for three and a half hours — his with considerably more violence than mine, but he’s not in heels.”

The couple went public when Swift began showing up to Chiefs games in the autumn of 2023. She attended the Super Bowl. Kelce appeared on stage at one of her London Eras Tour dates. They announced their engagement last August in a joint Instagram post captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Looking back at the beginning of it all, Swift reflected in the docuseries: “If you ever would have told me that the most meaningful relationship I would ever have would start with a man saying that he was butthurt that I didn’t want to meet him — like, unbelievable.”

Today, it ends with a wedding.
