Zendaya is continuing one of the most remarkable runs in Hollywood. The 30-year-old has signed on to star in an untitled sci-fi film written and directed by Alex Garland for A24 — her third collaboration with the studio and her first sci-fi role outside the Dune franchise.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. Shooting is scheduled for next year. No release date or additional cast have been announced.
Why This Pairing Makes Sense
Garland and A24 have a long-standing creative relationship dating back to Ex Machina, which earned Garland an Oscar nomination. Since then the studio has partnered with him on Men, Civil War, Warfare, and the upcoming live-action Elden Ring adaptation — a fantasy-adventure film starring Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, and Havana Rose Liu, dated for March 3, 2028.
For Zendaya, this deepens an already significant relationship with A24. She won multiple Emmys and a Golden Globe for her work as Rue in Euphoria, the final season of which aired this spring. She also starred alongside Robert Pattinson in Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama, which grossed over $134 million worldwide. She remains attached to Barry Jenkins’s Be My Baby, an A24 biopic in which she will play singer Ronnie Spector.
Where Zendaya Stands in 2026
The new Garland project comes at the peak of Zendaya’s box office standing. This year she appeared in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, playing the goddess Athena — the film has grossed over $1.7 billion worldwide and is considered an Oscar frontrunner. She also reprised her role as MJ in Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside her husband Tom Holland, which has crossed $2.5 billion globally.
Her next release is Dune: Part Three, the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy, in which she returns as Chani. It opens December 18th, set 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, with Paul Atreides now emperor of the known universe.
The Garland collaboration will follow that.
