The wedding of the year is taking place at Madison Square Garden — and it is shaping up to be exactly as extraordinary as that sentence implies. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are set to hold their wedding celebration at MSG in New York City, with permits confirmed for a Friday event for more than 1,000 guests and a Thursday rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 people. Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw are among the performers expected to take the stage.
“I’ve heard Taylor invited so many people it’s going to be bigger than the Met Gala,” one industry insider said. The event has been described by multiple sources close to the couple as a “Wedding-palooza” — a celebration on a scale that surprised even people in Swift’s inner circle. “Something this big and lavish is somewhat antithetical to what those closest to her would have imagined for her wedding,” one source said. “And that’s why many feel the MSG event will be a celebration of marriage that will have already occurred.”
Security sources at Manhattan’s City Clerk’s Office confirmed there has been no sign of a Swift marriage licence filed in recent days — though New York State licences are valid for 60 days and a judicial waiver can bypass the 24-hour waiting period. City Hall confirmed a permit for July 2nd to July 4th, with 33rd Street blocked off in front of the arena.
The Performers — and the Easter Egg That Previewed Them
The choice of performers carries signature Swift intentionality. Tim McGraw was Swift’s first-ever Billboard hit at age 16 — a song literally named after the country star. Stevie Nicks has been a Swift touchstone throughout her career. The connection was hiding in plain sight when Swift wore a shirt reading “Stevie Knicks” to Game 4 of the NBA Finals at MSG on June 10th — one of her classic public Easter eggs, this one pointing not only to the performers but apparently to the venue itself.
Nashville sources say multiple performances are planned for the Friday event. Rumours have circulated about Paul McCartney — who performed with Swift at the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live in 2015 — though reports suggest he is currently in the UK. His daughter Stella McCartney, a close friend of Swift’s, is believed to be invited and may have designed one of the bride’s looks. Swift has recently been seen wearing Stella McCartney pieces in bridal white.
Country music has cancelled around the wedding. Kenny Chesney and Kesha have both moved tour dates that coincided with the wedding weekend, with industry sources suggesting both will attend. Dierks Bentley, members of Little Big Town and Sugarland, and Kelsea Ballerini are all reported to be on the guest list.

The Guest List — Who’s In and Who’s Out
Swift’s maid of honour is expected to be her longtime best friend and high school companion Abigail Anderson. The wider guest list includes Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim; Zoë Kravitz; Ed Sheeran; Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley; Mariska Hargitay; Cara Delevingne; Suki Waterhouse; Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper; and Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco. Emma Stone — whose connection to Swift’s song “When Emma Falls in Love” is widely understood — is expected, along with her husband Dave McCary. Various Saturday Night Live cast members are also on the list.
Kelce’s side brings a substantial NFL contingent — Patrick Mahomes, George Kittle, coach Andy Reid, and Kyle Juszczyk and his wife Kristin are all confirmed or expected. Blake Lively, previously a close friend of Swift’s, is not on the guest list following a falling-out during the actress’s legal battle with director Justin Baldoni.
The No-Gift Rule — and What Etiquette Experts Say
Kittle confirmed to reporters this week that Swift and Kelce have been clear with guests: “absolutely no gifts.” He admitted he might bend the rule slightly anyway — he was considering an old coin for Kelce, who collects them. For everyone else, etiquette experts say the couple’s request should be taken at face value.
“If a couple says ‘no gifts, please,’ honor their wishes,” said California-based etiquette expert Lisa Mirza Grotts. “This isn’t like arriving at a dinner party empty-handed. Regardless of a couple’s financial status, a wedding should never feel like a financial transaction.” Florida-based expert Jacqueline Whitmore agreed, noting: “The couple is taking the pressure off their guests. Something tells me Taylor and Travis don’t need another toaster.”
Experts suggest that guests who still feel compelled to acknowledge the occasion could send a donation to a cause the couple supports — a pattern set by Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, who at their September 2025 wedding asked guests to donate to Gomez’s Rare Impact Fund rather than bring gifts.
MSG’s internal architecture, according to a source with experience at the venue, gives the event a level of privacy that is difficult to replicate. A ramp from 33rd Street leads directly to stage level through what appears from the street to be a service entrance. “Nobody will see a car coming in and who is being dropped off — it’s the ultimate in privacy,” the source said.
