Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are heading to space — sort of. Illumination and Universal have announced Not Alone, a new animated film led by the two stars, with a theatrical release date of April 16, 2027. The announcement was accompanied by an official poster revealing the film’s alien-themed premise, which the studio quickly confirmed involves extraterrestrial visitors, a plant-powered rocket, and what sounds very much like a romantic comedy at its core.
Chalamet voices Joe, described as an introverted rocket mechanic. Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist who is working on a plant-powered rocket. The two collaborate on the rocket project, which leads to romantic complications — while a trio of aliens, hoping to board the rocket, seek temporary shelter at Joe’s house. The supporting cast for the film is strong. Brett Goldstein of Ted Lasso voices a law enforcement official pursuing the three aliens, while Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou voice the aliens themselves.

The film is directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val — and sits under the Illumination banner, the same studio currently behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Minions and Monsters. A poster and the cast reveal dropped Monday June 22nd, with full plot details expected to follow in the lead-up to the film’s promotional campaign.
