Travis Kelce has one regret about his July 3rd wedding to Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden — and it is simply that it ended. Speaking on the season premiere of his New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end gave listeners their most detailed inside look yet at what the couple have kept almost entirely private since tying the knot nearly two months ago.
“I wish it could have lasted even longer than it did,” Travis said of the evening. “It felt like it just happened in the blink of an eye.” Jason, who was Travis’s best man, offered a succinct explanation: “They kicked us out.” Travis confirmed the venue’s closing time had done its work. “Well, once the drinks stopped being served, everyone kinda just starts to, you know, mosey out.”
Travis also flashed his new gold wedding band during the episode — the first time he has worn it publicly on camera.
Why Madison Square Garden
On the choice of venue for one of the most anticipated celebrity weddings in recent memory, Travis was candid about what the couple were looking for. “We wanted to do it somewhere where we could have a very intimate and genuine setting without a lot of distractions. And we needed it to be a private feel,” he said. “And MSG went above and beyond to give us that.”
The arena was transformed over several days ahead of the ceremony by workers bringing in materials and decor to convert the legendary sporting venue into what one attendee previously described as “a garden inside the Garden.” The ceremony featured 40 minutes of personalised vows — 20 minutes each — and each guest received a monogrammed ivory handkerchief embroidered with a lyric from Swift’s “Blank Space.”
Adam Sandler — Travis’s Biggest Thank You
The most enthusiastic shout-out of the episode went to Adam Sandler, who officiated the ceremony. “I can’t say thank you to everyone without giving a special thank you to the Adam Sandler,” Travis said. He described Sandler — who got ordained in New York for the occasion — as “the f—ing best person on this planet,” adding that Sandler gave the couple “more than we could have ever imagined in that moment, knowing that it was the biggest night of both of our lives.”
Jason admitted he had initially assumed the comedian would play it for laughs and was caught off-guard by the depth of the performance. “When you said Adam was gonna be officiating the wedding, I initially was like, ‘Man, he’s gonna be hilarious.’ But it wasn’t until right before the wedding that I realized, ‘Oh my god, he’s gonna crush this because there’s a sweetness in everything Adam does, like all of his movies. And there’s a degree of it that I think really resonates with officiating a wedding.'”
No Phones, No Formal Seating — Just a Party
The couple enforced a strict no-phone policy for all guests inside the venue. Travis said the decision transformed how people interacted. “It makes everyone be in the moment and be present. And it was so cool seeing everyone from my childhood, not only mesh with Taylor and her childhood and her family and friends and people that she works with.”
Jason described the structure as one of the most enjoyable elements of the evening. “After all that was done, there wasn’t the sit-down formal stuff. There wasn’t a bunch of the speeches. It was just time to party and have fun. And that’s what made it so fun to be there.” Jason also noted the surreal celebrity mix on the guest list. “I saw Brad Pitt hugging Conan O’Brien. I see Paul McCartney — and then all of a sudden I see Mrs. Clarke,” his former teacher, prompting visible disbelief.
The wedding party was tight. Swift’s brother Austin Swift served as her man of honour. Jason served as Travis’s best man. The couple opted not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Jason and Kylie Kelce’s daughters served as flower girls.
Swift has not posted publicly about the wedding or made any public comment. The couple were spotted together at a California wedding days after their own, attending the nuptials of Travis’s teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster. Since then, Travis has returned to Chiefs training camp while Swift travelled to London for the wedding of her recording engineers, Oli Jacobs and Laura Sisk.
