Street Fighter Opens at No. 1 With $31 Million Weekend Forecast as You Can See Everything Surprises at No. 2

Street Fighter

Street Fighter won the weekend box office in a crowded new-release frame, projecting $31 million by Sunday from a $13 million Friday start — a strong debut for Paramount’s video game adaptation that also saw A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything significantly outperform expectations in second place.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai and starring Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji as two estranged fighters in the 1990s recruited into a tournament that forces them to face each other, the film is the third live-action adaptation of Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise. The 1994 original starring Jean-Claude Van Damme grossed $100 million. The 2009 Legend of Chun-Li earned just $12.8 million against a $50 million budget. This iteration appears to land closer to the former.

You Can See Everything Outperforms

The weekend’s bigger story may be A24’s You Can See Everything, a documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes made by Nathan Fielder and Primetime filmmaker Lance Oppenheim over more than three years. The film — described as an “unhinged” look at Holmes in the month before she began her 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors — grossed $5.54 million on Friday from 855 theatres and is tracking toward a $12.45 million weekend. That exceeds initial projections of $7 to $8 million and would surpass Amazon MGM’s Melania as the biggest opening for a non-music or concert documentary in over a decade.

The Rest of the Top Five

Focus Features’ Sense and Sensibility, a remake of the Jane Austen classic directed by Georgia Oakley and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, placed third with $3.3 million Friday from 2,545 theatres, tracking toward a $6.7 million opening weekend. The most celebrated prior adaptation remains the 1995 film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.

Disney’s survival thriller Whalefall, directed by Brian Duffield and starring Austin Abrams as a scuba diver swallowed by a sperm whale with one hour of oxygen remaining, was fourth with $3 million from 2,065 locations and is projected to reach $7 million by Sunday.

Universal’s supernatural horror Other Mommy held at fifth, grossing $2.5 million Friday and projecting a $7.85 million weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $44.35 million. The film — based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House — stars Jessica Chastain as both a mother and the terrifying entity that takes on her appearance.
