Apple just pulled back the curtain on iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference, and the new iPhone software is already available for developers to download. For everyone else, there is a clear timetable between now and the full public release expected in September. Here is everything you need to know.
The headline feature of iOS 27 is a rebuilt Siri powered by Apple Intelligence — now called Siri AI. But the update goes considerably deeper than that, with significant improvements to parental controls, context-aware features across the operating system, and smaller quality-of-life changes including a separate volume level for alarms that keeps them audible even when notification sounds are turned down.
Which iPhones Will Get iOS 27?
Apple surprised many observers by confirming that iOS 27 will run on every iPhone currently supported by iOS 26 — from the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro all the way through the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air. The four earliest iPhones on that list had been widely expected to be cut off, but they are in. Older devices will not support Apple Intelligence or Siri AI, but they will receive the update.
The software will also run on the next iPhone generation expected in September — widely anticipated to include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and potentially the first folding iPhone, likely called the iPhone Ultra.
Developer Beta — Available Now
The iOS 27 developer beta went live on June 8th, the day of the WWDC announcement. Developers can download it immediately. Signing up as a developer is free — after registering, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, enable Beta Updates, and select iOS 27 Developer Beta. Downloads are large, potentially around 20GB.
Apple’s standard advice applies: run betas on a secondary device rather than your daily phone, as bugs are expected. What is unusual this time is that Apple is actively encouraging users to have their personal data on the test device, so that the new context-aware features can be properly evaluated in real-world conditions.
Siri AI is available to developers through a separate waitlist. To join, go to Settings, then Siri, and select the option to join the New Siri waiting list. You will receive a notification when access becomes available for your device.

Public Beta — July 2026
Apple confirmed that the iOS 27 public beta will land in July. This follows the standard pattern, with the public beta typically releasing shortly after the third developer beta — usually in mid-July. Last year’s public beta arrived slightly later, aligning with the fourth developer beta instead.
The public beta is significantly more stable than the developer beta and is a reasonable option for anyone who wants early access without running a work device on pre-release software.
Release Candidate — Early September 2026
Developer and public betas will continue through July and August. The final beta — called the Release Candidate — is expected in early September, typically arriving on or around the day of Apple’s September keynote. Based on historical patterns, that keynote is likely to fall on Wednesday September 9th, meaning the Release Candidate could appear that day or within a day or two of it.
Full Public Release — Predicted September 14, 2026
The exact release date will not be confirmed until Apple announces its new iPhone lineup in September. If the keynote lands on September 9th as expected, the general release of iOS 27 to all compatible iPhones is likely to follow on or around Monday September 14th — consistent with Apple’s typical one-week gap between announcement and software availability.
