Disney and TikTok have announced a deal that neither company has attempted before: a global content-sharing agreement that will place fan-created TikTok videos directly inside the Disney+ app, while simultaneously giving TikTok creators licensed access to assets from hundreds of Disney films and series spanning Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX, and more.
The deal will pilot in the United States in the coming months before expanding to other markets. At launch, short-form videos from creators who opt into the programme will appear on both TikTok and in Verts on Disney+ — the platform’s short-form video destination — refreshed regularly to keep pace with fan conversations in real time. Participation is voluntary for creators, and content must be built around Disney’s curated library of scenes and moments rather than unauthorised material.
“The best storytellers are fans first,” said Asad Ayaz, Disney’s chief marketing and brand officer. “This collaboration creates a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire, giving creators a bigger stage to share what they’ve made, and audiences more to discover on Disney+ every day.”
TikTok’s global head of entertainment, Dawn Yang, framed the deal as a natural extension of how the platform’s community already engages with film and television. “Their creativity extends the life of films and shows into conversations that fans discover and share.”
What the Deal Means for Creators
The agreement includes a jointly-run Disney Creator Ambassador Programme, designed to identify and elevate talent producing high-quality fan content. Participants in the tiered programme will gain access to special rewards, increased visibility on both platforms, exclusive events, and career development pathways. The structure reflects a deliberate effort from both companies to build sustained relationships with creators rather than treating fan content as a one-time promotional tool.
The commercial logic behind the deal is grounded in data TikTok considers compelling. Fans shared an average of 6.5 million film and television-related posts on TikTok every day in the past year, according to the company’s internal figures. Nearly half of surveyed viewers reported watching a film or television series on a streaming service after first discovering it through entertainment content on TikTok. For Disney+, which is competing for subscriber attention in an increasingly crowded streaming market, integrating the platform that is already driving discovery decisions is a meaningful strategic move.
The arrangement also addresses a question that has haunted the relationship between fan creativity and intellectual property for years — when fans build cultural moments around copyrighted material, who benefits and who is exposed. Disney is effectively converting that fan energy into a licensed, mutually beneficial programme rather than managing it as an IP enforcement problem.
